Your Dog’s Secret Bathroom Habits
This morning, I walked into the kitchen, half asleep, and nearly tripped over Moon in the darkness.
“Why do you look so guilty?” I asked, raising an eyebrow.
She was doing her typical “I did something bad” pose—head lowered, eyes looking up at me, tail between her legs, trying to look as small as possible.
And sure enough, right next to the trash can…
A confetti pile of shredded pee pads.
The Weirdest Storm Ritual
When we first got Moon, she peed inside constantly.
Even if she had just been outside.
It took a long time to break that habit (along with her separation anxiety), but she’s way better now.
Still, I leave out pee pads in the kitchen when Moon’s mortal enemy comes to town…
Thunderstorms.
She used to shake like a leaf hours before we even knew a storm was coming. But she’s improved a lot.
Nowadays, she’s about 95% successful at using the pee pad when storms roll in—which I’m fine with. Nobody’s perfect.
But here’s where it gets weird.
If there’s a storm and she doesn’t have to pee?
She shreds her pee pad into ribbons and crumples it into a ball.
Why?
No clue.
Just one of those fun quirks that make dogs so unique.
Not All Dogs Act The Same—Even Within The Same Breed
Even within the same breed, individual personalities can be night and day.
I’ve seen lazy Corgis and hyper Corgis…
Friendly Poodles and aggressive Poodles…
So what happens if you choose a dog expecting one thing… and end up with the opposite?
Let’s say you pick a French Bulldog because you want a low-energy dog that won’t need much exercise…
And then your Frenchie wants to run marathons every day.
That’s a recipe for disaster.
How Good Breeding Reduces The Guesswork
Yes, every dog is unique.
But good breeders work hard to keep each generation of puppies close to breed standards—meaning their temperament, health, and behavior are more predictable.
That’s why picking the right breeder is so important.
When you get a puppy from a breeder who takes their job seriously, you can feel confident that your dog will look and act the way you expect.
But breeders like that?
They’re rare.
And because I refuse to work with anyone but the best, I had to make a tough call…
